Quilt Market & Festival
(this page may take a short while to load - many photos)

Each year, Kala and Celia travel to Houston, Texas to the International Quilt Market. This is a trade-only show, and a wonderful opportunity to see all that is new and upcoming. The bonus is that we get to see the stunning quilts of the Internation Quilt Festival, a juried show.

The first day of Quilt Market is "Schoolhouse Series". These are rapid-fire quick classes (about 15 minutes to a half-hour each) taught by the pros. Kala and Celia split up to get the maximum learning opportunity.

The first night of Quilt Market is "Sample Spree". An insane event where the vendors are selling their products. They limit the number of people attending and it always sells out, it's always packed. We equate it to the old Wedding Dress sales at Filene's Basement - sheer mayhem. But what things we got! Samples, fabrics ahead of when they will be released, kits like McKenna Ryan's "Sand In My Shoes".

Then we spend Saturday and Sunday searching for beautiful fabrics and fun new products and patterns at the almost 1,000 merchants and companies there. Fun, fun, fun. We can't wait to show everyone what we've found! We also had the incredible fortune to view the quilts of the juried International Quilt Festival. Each one a work of art and breathtaking. They always humble and level us.

Jinny Beyer taught Color Theory. By using a pallette, she proved that the lights and the darks are what made the in-between shades shine.See photo above, in middle. Most attendees chose the quilt on the right as favorite.
